Ownership
Aside from clearly-marked quotes from other sites, I write every word of my posts. They are wholly mine and do not represent anyone else, including my current employer. All mistakes are therefore also mine.
Researching
I read using NewsBlur, which aggregates my sites and newsletters. You can see the latest posts from sites I subscribe to at sources.werd.io. I browse articles using Zen Browser. I sometimes use Sill and Surf to browse targeted sources.
I also regularly check sites like MetaFilter, Reddit, and, yes, Hacker News. I also find my social media networks to be very useful for finding interesting posts — particularly Bluesky, Mastodon, and LinkedIn.
Writing
All my posts are written in iA Writer. It’s probably the best text editor for writers I’ve ever used.
For longer-form work, which is typically not published on this site, I use Ulysses.
Publishing
My site is powered and hosted by Ghost (Pro).
My link blog posts are drafted in iA Writer, then saved to a Notion database using Save to Notion. Then a Zapier automation grabs them, publishes them to my website, and automatically posts them to my social networks. (It also saves them to my Raindrop bookmarks.)
Using artificial intelligence for writing
I don’t use AI to write my posts for reasons that include but aren’t limited to:
- Writing is my first love: why would I take away the fun bit?
- If I used an LLM to generate text, I wouldn’t be able to guarantee that I wasn’t plagiarizing someone else.
- If I stop using my brain for things my brain will adapt accordingly.
I feel strongly that AI can never replace a human writer and don’t intend to start with myself.
