# Elgg is a finalist in the New Statesman New Media Awards

We're very proud to announce that [Elgg](http://elgg.org/) is a finalist in the [New Statesman New Media Awards 2007](http://www.newstatesman.com/nma/nma2007/finalists), in the Education category. The other finalists are Futurelab's [Create-a-scape](http://www.createascape.org.uk/) multimedia toolkit and [the Open University's OpenLearn initiative](http://www.open.ac.uk/openlearn/home.php) \- impressive company indeed!

What makes this particularly impressive is that each of the other finalists has received heavy funding, whereas Elgg has been a grassroots project for much of its life, predating Curverider by a couple of years. We have always believed in the project beyond thoughts of commercial gain, and continue to do so; whatever the outcome of the awards in a couple of weeks, it's a great feeling to be recognised. Thank you to the New Statesman, and everyone who nominated us. We look forward to developing Elgg long into what promises to be a very exciting future.
