# Events I'll be at this year

Ever so tentatively, I’m beginning to show my head at in-person events this year. I haven’t been to any kind of industry conference or regular event since at least 2019\. The small matter of a global, deadly pandemic kept me away, but I’ve decided that I’ll return to events that have solid covid protocols and where I can trust that the attendees will be sensible. It feels weird!

I’ll be at [ONA 2023](https://ona23.journalists.org/) — the annual Online News Association conference — from August 23-26\. It’s just down the road from my new home in North Philadelphia, but also, there has never been a more crucial time for journalism and democracy. I’m looking forward to the conversations.

I’m also planning to be at [DazzleCon](https://zebrasunite.coop/dazzlecon) in Chicago on October 20-21\. This is the second ever [Zebras Unite](https://zebrasunite.coop) conference, all about how to create a better, more participative and equitable economy. I’ve been a huge fan of the zebras since reading [an early version of its Sex and Startups manifesto](https://medium.com/zebras-unite/sex-startups-53f2f63ded49), and I have a zebra startup of my own in my future.
