[OpenZoep is a GPL-licensed open source VoIP client for Windows, Mac and Linux](http://www.openzoep.org/). They're promoting an extension to the XMPP/Jabber spec that would allow for SIP calls using XMPP networks, which would finally allow for an *interoperable* peer to peer voice system.

XMPP really does seem like the technology of the moment - there's this, and people are discovering that the implementation used by Google Talk contains a single sign on solution (presumably the thing that's powering the recent integration of Gmail and Google Talk). It does have a multitude of uses; I think we'll be seeing more from the protocol before long ...
