Playing with Ping, an app whose entire UI is mobile notifications. I prefer all my devices to be windows on the same information.

We agree that federation is the answer. The Indie Web community has created simple protocols that are easy to implement and prevent a monoculture where just one product is used to federate (which is a dangerous situation too). I'm betting on those to free us from silos.
Sincerely wish automatic SSL provisioning (for new and custom domains) was easier.
