@Ronin_Jim @Haje There are lot of talented people in Edinburgh, but it's frustratingly hard to raise money or find an audience.

@Ronin_Jim @Haje I think there's a big emphasis on grants and government funding vs creating an actual investor ecosystem. Hard to scale.
Scotland's startup inaction is particularly crazy because the University of Edinburgh is one of the best CS / AI schools in the world.
I still have strong feelings about Silicon Glen (a place, not a person). Scotland could do so much to promote startups - but it just isn't.
The belief that your country is better than other peoples' is a sure sign that you're part of an old way of thinking. We are all connected.

Cultural differences are funny. I knew someone who said only Victorian houses were acceptable (which is insane privilege in itself, but whatever; they're undoubtedly beautiful). Here, it's all about new builds.
Maybe it's because they're all made of wood - or maybe it's more to do with the cultural impermanence here. I like it, abstractly: the idea that anyone can affect the world around them. It's a marked difference to a world where all the buildings have been there long before you and will still be there long after you die.
I still like Victorians though.

@steveklabnik This is true, but I'm honestly surprised America celebrates labor in any kind of way at all.
The labor movement fought for so many things that benefit all of us. It's fitting, if, sadly, surprising, to have a day to honor them.
Thanks to the labor movement for sane hours, good conditions, weekends and protections. Sorry I've flaunted them with this startup thing.
@parzzix Not right now but it's on the roadmap. There's a lot of video transcoding that has to be done, and we want to get it right.
Whoever said America didn't have class conflict was wrong. In particular, I see so much disdain for working class people from the wealthy.
