@haje That's certainly true, but even base language skills are often elusive. Lots of people literally can't write a complete sentence.
One reason why Facebook won: writing well isn't a mainstream skill. It's easier to hit "like" or "share" than construct a sentence.

@zer0n1ne I think you can simplify more: any new site or tool must have a simple mental model if it is to widely succeed. Not just social.
