My opinion of Snapchat has completely reversed. Swapping rain shots for kittens. Totally get it.

Startups: undercompensating & overworking talent vital to your success leads to churn you can't afford. Lottery tickets don't pay for rent.

I recommend that anyone who cares about the Internet boycotts companies like AT&T. http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/ATT-Patents-Concept-to-Detect-Charge-More-For-Certain-Traffic-127...

@btocher Yes! I wasn't expecting it to be possible. Thanks!

@joshuajuran Hey, I like text. But also, watch this space. For a while. Maybe IWC PDX.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was a great actor. Very sad to read about his passing, and how it happened. Tempting to be angry at the entertainment ecosystem around him, but we just don't know.

So if I can't get broadcast TV, don't have cable, am stingy and don't particularly care, what's my best bet for idly gawking at the Superbowl?

@sarahdessen Speaking for myself: makeshift bib, possibly a lobster hat (no reason).

Check out @pmarca's stream today. This is also stuff you get to know well if someone you care for is immunosuppressed.

I genuinely love rainy Sundays. It's been a while.

Sitting with my mother watching the PBS News Hour, which she enjoys, partially because she can watch it whenever she wants. Show of hands: do you watch live broadcast TV? Which shows?

A family stroll, one year later.

A family stroll, one year later.

Being able to take a walk with my mother today is amazing enough; can't say I'm displeased with where I'm doing it, either.

From CaringBridge, this time last year: "every part of us is looking forward to - and hoping for - that moment where she can breathe again." Here's to a year of moments.

One small thing you can do to make a giant difference: sign up to be an organ donor. Really. Please.

This time last year I was sitting with my family in the hospital, waiting to find out if they were going to save my mother's life with a lung transplant. Today, I'm hoping to take her to the beach. It's been a difficult, sometimes heartbreaking year, but she is amazing, and I am so grateful for her persistence, the rock-like support she gets from my father, the values and strength of my whole family, and the skills and intelligence of the surgeons, nurses and doctors. And mostly that she's here.

There's an interesting opportunity for a company to offer free equivalents to Google's Android tools and license them to whomever wishes to bundle them onto their handsets. Nokia Here, oddly, could be a contender for this. Maps are important, and Google is using them as leverage.

A fun surprise to come back to tonight! It's great - you should get a copy.

This was waiting for me when I came home tonight. I can't wait to reread it. Definitely worth a look.
