Box's Augmented Types for PHP are an interesting idea. I'd probably use them if they were an optional part of core. http://tech.blog.box.com/2014/01/making-php-safer-introducing-augmented-types/
@johannes_ernst I want to build an address book (or, rather, a "following" list). That'll act as the key. You can then just type someone's name and the syndication plugins will filter appropriately.
