Slack is wonderful, but it's an intranet platform. A better solution for wider discussion communities is needed. Very different needs.

A lot of open source adopters have myopia: "everyone needs to see the value in this!" Well, they don't. Trick is to succeed given that.

I've been thinking a lot about my grandfather, my mom's dad, who was captured by the Nazis and had to deny his Jewishness to survive.

Note that "better" explicitly doesn't mean "would have led to a result we preferred".
