The ACLU, rightly, highlights the potential for algorithms to discriminate. This is important: https://www.aclu.org/blog/speak-freely/brave-new-world-discrimination

Considering finally killing my Google Voice number. People I want to talk to use IM; SMS, like snail mail before it, is now 90% junk. Sad.

Heading to Homebrew Website Club, 6:30pm at the Creamery in San Francisco - but running a few minutes late.

Christians: real question, no judgment (so to speak). Does anything in the New Testament say being gay is sinful or that same sex marriages are wrong? Furthermore, is it true that the sins described in the Old Testament (including Leviticus) were absolved by Jesus dying? I've been an atheist my whole life and don't know, but I'd really like to genuinely understand these points.

Thanks!

Weeks like this make me grateful to have moved to such an amazing place. So much opportunity; so much activity and ambition; so much beauty.

I'm not into late night talk / variety shows, but I'm loving Colbert so far. Perfect night for it to be too hot to sleep.

I still have strong feelings about Silicon Glen (a place, not a person). Scotland could do so much to promote startups - but it just isn't.

The belief that your country is better than other peoples' is a sure sign that you're part of an old way of thinking. We are all connected.

Seeing some Britain First white power bullshit bubble up into my feed. Awful, bigoted, idiotic. And interesting tidbit: they endorse Trump.

Cultural differences are funny. I knew someone who said only Victorian houses were acceptable (which is insane privilege in itself, but whatever; they're undoubtedly beautiful). Here, it's all about new builds.

Maybe it's because they're all made of wood - or maybe it's more to do with the cultural impermanence here. I like it, abstractly: the idea that anyone can affect the world around them. It's a marked difference to a world where all the buildings have been there long before you and will still be there long after you die.

I still like Victorians though.
