The EU ruling against Safe Harbor complicates things enormously for Internet services, but is a win for privacy. http://www.businessinsider.com/european-court-of-justice-safe-harbor-ruling-2015-10?utm_content=buff...

Lots of people talking about the @Fairphone. I need to learn more - the device itself looks fantastic. Does the OS spy on you?

What's the most ethical laptop you can buy, that also has great performance? Don't say Apple, HP or Lenovo.

@girlziplocked FWIW: I run a startup and 100% agree. Public money should go to education, welfare, healthcare and infrastructure.

I didn't think I'd be forcing a MacBook Air to recompile llvm at 11:15pm on a Monday night, but here we are.

This shouldn't surprise anyone, but I'm hereby coming out heavily in favor of the Oxford comma.

@davidmead I'm away from my desk but have had a few reports today. Worth logging a mailing list message - will be checking it out later.

Investors are co-founders. I'm delighted with the support we get. I think we're super-lucky.

Have you raised funding for a startup with an end-user product with an open source core? I'd really love to have a chat.

Browser vendors have spent the last decade making it hard to embed code in iframes. Meanwhile, in -land, it's required.

@jw Probably they think they're doing you a favor by not asking to meet first thing - totally what I'd do. Maybe worth specifying times?

@jasonlk Again, really good feedback. Thank you.

@jasonlk That's great feedback - so you prefer a SAFE to a note with "best practice" terms?

· Replies · Share this post

@jasonlk Is there a situation where you would advocate using a SAFE or a more standard note?

@tinokremer I do think open source is a better model, but it's often incompatible with business realities. Having an "audit source" license would fulfill proprietary needs while allowing us to make sure that the software is fit for purpose.

@tinokremer Yes - but open source comes with the ability to share / reuse. I'd rather that we at least get the ability to audit our cars in particular for safety; I don't see manufacturers allowing that code to be reused or shared any time soon.

"If you work for Facebook, quit." I wouldn't put it that strongly, but this is a serious issue: https://www.jwz.org/blog/2015/10/if-you-work-for-facebook-quit/
